The Health Department.

Cobra coverage is not affordable for millions of American's.Turning to your local Health Dept may be beneficial for those who need medical attention. Health Department's all over the U.S. offer a wide variety of services and  some even offer dental. Every state has a health Dept but many cities and counties operate their own. Using this system is more cost effective because it's based on your income. If you are unemployed the visit should cost you little to nothing. Like everything the Health Dept has its  pros and cons. About three years ago I used Broward County Health Dept in Florida for my annual check up. My only complaint was waiting 45 min to see a doctor. If you are in love with your Family Physician, you might find it difficult to see a new doctor. You can however have your medical records transferred so that your new doctor knows your medical history. If you have children this may be ideal. Do not put off going to the doctor. Contact your local Health Dept. If you have any questions about my personal experience feel free to ask.

Hope this helps and God Bless, Lissa Shevon

  4. The fact that these Health departments exist should still not excuse this country from having a national health care plan.

  5. @ Kathy Hanyside, You are Right it does not excuse this country from having a national health care plan. I am however grateful that There are health departments because I can not afford to see a doctor and pay the bill out of pocket. My cousin went to see and ob/gyn at the health department and she was diagnosed with cervical Cancer. Because of earlier detection, she is healthy and cancer free.

  6. You can also get dental care. Your income level is a factor in how much you pay for services. You may have to pay a small co-fee for a service, but it should be a low amount. To get medical or dental care you need to ask about what services your county provides for low income people and apply, but bring evidence of residence, a driver's license or state ID, social security card, utility bills and proof of income or lack of it, which may be provided by your social worker who issues food stamps or welfare.
